Free Kinboo Campaign: Let us all help Free Crocodile (Kinboo) at Kudakudhinge Bageecha

This is the tale of a sad & lonesome Kinboo, a crocodile who has been held captive in Maldives Kudakudhinge Bageecha since 14th February 1998, though Kinboo was caught in Valentines day for almost 13 years which is more than a decade Kinboo has been in isolation lost without any companionship of a friend or a mate and probably gone psychotic by now. I sure as hell know that i wouldn't ever wanna be in Kinboos leather shoes. Really it's no laughing matter incase you are laughing because Kinboo has lost his freedom and has become a side show Freak for all the Maldivians. Not to say getting abused by children and some adults with stuff thrown at and laser's being burnt into his eyes that im not sure even if Kinboo hasn't gone blind by know. At least his thick leather skin will protect from the stuffs being thrown at him. I have always been supporting this cause, especially more actively since the Billabong High school students protest campaign for this cause.
Well see the pictures above guys for such a large reptile, Kinboo is actually worlds second largest crocodile known as the Nile Crocodile which grows almost 11 to 16 feet long and mostly roams & travels around large Rain Forest with wet landscape areas. So being trapped in a small dirty cage which is barely able to fit him is worse than death itself. Also Kinboo is an endangered species and one of the few amongst the decreasing crocodile population in Africa. Actually what prompted me most to write this article was after seeing the petition on twitter and some supporting movements in the MV bloggers to free Kinboo. So if you have a twitter account i urge you to follow @TheKinboo and join in this campaign. I mean it's been bloody 13 years guys don't you think he have suffered enough for us Maldivians entertainment. Come on ask the question to yourself, would you be in a place like that or just rather die, see its so cruel & wrong. So If you want to know someone who is really feeling guilty about it, here are some posts i hear said from the person who personally captured this Kinboo (Mr.Dicky). I have taken this bit of comment below from a fellow MV blogger MCPW. You guys can check that blog for the whole story.

ANY CHARACTER HERE
Hi! All this is Saeed (Gahaa) also known among other names as Dicky, Kimboo, DP etc. Just to fill u in. The croc was caught on 14th February (Valentines Day) 1998. I was DP of Majeediyya then. I caught it primarily to save the kids who were swimming in the sea in close proximity to the kimboo. i also wish for it to be released/rehabilitated. The NSS initially wanted it killed because it was a dangerous animal. But i assured Brig. Gen Adam Zahir that I could bring it safe to Male'. i did. and this is where that has led us eh? I believe there are rumours of Kimboo being taken to Sri Lanka or S'pore/M'sia. Unconfirmed as yet. But rest assured I will sign any petition calling for the release of the croc. And talking about liberation , methinks the croc should be freed ASAP. Am going to Male' on holiday in the first week of July. Will talk to key ppl to see what we could do to release the fellow. Options available seem to be: a zoo in another country (with other crocs to rehabilitate); or send somewhwere for climatising and adjusting and then set it free as in Free Willy (as suggested by members of the forum earlier)! See ya later alligator(s)!

Also guys did you know this is not the first time a crocodile has been caught in Maldivian waters. Actually there have been two more reported catches one in Noonu atoll Maafaru where a six foot long, 26 inch wide crocodile was captured by 14 fishermen crew of Alimas Dhoni. Second one was a four-foot crocodile which was found near an uninhabited island in Thaa atoll Vilufushi by police. Reportedly Crocodiles were earlier found from Thaa atoll Buruni on two occasions and another sighting was reported near Gaafu Alifu atoll Kondey. Just thinking what the late great 'Crocodile Hunter' known as Steve Irwin who died of a sting ray's attack which pierced a needle in to his chest, so what would have he done had he known we kept a poor crocodile caged like this. Certainly he would call all animal rights foundations, make a documentary of it & try to free it and find a better habitat for it to live in, actually we can't keep animals caged like that in Childrens Garden a.k.a Kudakudhinge Bageecha its just so cruel, wrong and inhuman to do such things. Atleast we should give them a big wild place resembling their habitat with atleast a few dozens of their compatriots for them to roam around and by wild place i mean wild parks with a few hectars where the animals are kept in their own habitats to roam around freely in a tight and safely controlled area.

So if we can't afford to make such a place we should let these animal have their freedom. Because if we can't let them be what they are we might as well just kill them off. Trapping them like this make them loose their natural animal intincts and once released to the wild they cant survive the harsh conditions to survive their. Because their it is survival of the fittest, kill or be killed. So grow a heart and do your social responsibility duties as a fellow Maldivian just like me and sign in this petition. So that we can bring the awareness between us and let our ignorant government take notice, but most importantly so that we can find Kinboo a better home & a habitat where he can find a mate with companionship of many of his kind. Also the petition is not doing so well yet with 67 sign ups so far, therefore help us help Kinboo by going to the petition link by clicking below or the Supporting Causes Free Kinboo icon on the right side of my blog. So help a poor lonely, abused, isolated and helpless poached animal in need. Pls Let's all stop this cruel act & Help Free Kinboo.

  1. kudhiverinney..
your priorities doesn't seem to be in order here..

Kinboo is not the only thing that's imprisoned in kudakudhinge bageecha.. there are hundreds of birds, a few turtles, some rabbits, a big lizard etc also.. so they all shall be released. why only kimboo?

if we are to release it to some zoo in srilanka or Malaysia, this will incur expenses. nobody transports cargo freely. money is a scarce commodity everyone can make use of. if you have excess of it, pls give to me! also releasing kimboo to a zoo is not releasing. its just putting it into captivity somewhere else.

if you really grew a heart overnight for these kind of 'pop' issues then i suggest doing a petition for releasing all the kimboos, sorry sorry, humans caged in a place called Gaza in palestine. The Israelis are keeping more than a million kinboos, sorry Gazans in similar conditions. Now that we are friends of Israelis, i am sure a good word from president Anni would be weighed at TelAviv and hopefully more than 1 million kinboos (sorry Gazans) will be released.
